Tassenmuseum Hendrikje

Ok, found the museum. It is in Amsterdam.

Here is some info on the museum:

Tassenmuseum Hendrikje

On display in the Tassenmuseum Hendrikje is a selection illustrating five hundred years of the history of bags in the Western world, from the late Middle Ages (16th century) to the present day. The Museum is responsible for a collection of over 3,500 bags, pouches, purses, suitcases and accessories; no other museum in the world has such an extensive collection under its management.

The collection presents a fascinating picture of the development bags underwent through the ages with regard to purpose, shape, material and decoration. Because of their great diversity, bags are highly interesting accessories with a rich history. In many ways, bags have been influenced on the one hand by social developments and on the other hand by changing styles in applied art and fashion.

Tassenmuseum Hendrikje’s large collection demonstrates that an object of daily use can be quite captivating and that it is always part of a process of continual change. This is the reason why the Museum stimulates young designers by giving them the opportunity to display their work and to sell it in the museum shop as well as online.

Hendrikje Museum of Bags is located in a historic building, dating back to 1664, on Herengracht 573 in the old city of Amsterdam. The mansion is part of a unique row of four buildings that were constructed in the same period; they share a common roof ridge-piece and have the same lay-out. Two period rooms in the building, featuring painted ceilings and beautiful mantelpieces from the 17th and 16th century, are open to the public.

Anyone want to go?

Handbags Throughout History

I made a fabulous purchase today:
I bought this gallery of handbags calendar for $1 at Borders during my lunch break. Each day displays a gorgeous (well most of them are) handbag from throughout history. I am absolutely amazed that Germany had some beautiful bags in the 1920s and 1930s. France in the 1920s, AMAZING! I definitely would wear some of them today. Here is a photo of some of the handbags in the calender:

It is taking a lot of restraint to not look at the photos coming up, I want them to be a surprise each day. Apparently they are displayed at a museum somewhere, which means I will figure out where it is and make that my trip this year!

I was looking on Amazon and apparently there is one for shoes too, which I may have to purchase.

What Rich Women Talk About

I had an interesting observation at lunch today. I stopped in at a favorite lunch spot in the Riverwoods and after placing my order to go, I sat and waited for my food. There were 5 young moms sitting at the only other table in the restaurant, so of course I couldn’t help but eavesdrop on them. Instantly I could tell that they were all quite wealthy. Several of them had Chloe Lane bags sitting next to them, and one lady had a really cute Marc Jacobs bag. There conversations consisted of talking about the scandals occurring in their neighborhood (So and so’s personal assistant picks up their kids, really what is she so busy with that she can’t pick up her own kids” and “We sold them our Hummer, but then they couldn’t afford to pay the lump sum, so now they are making payments to us. We asked for it back, but they won’t give it to us.”) and fun things like that. One woman was trying to be modest and tell the group about how she had been shopping on Nordstrom.com and put several items in her “bag” to look at later. Then her husband called and told her that he wouldn’t be able to make it back from his business trip for Vday so he just went ahead and bought everything in her Nordstrom “bag” online. $800 worth of stuff.

Oh the life of a rich woman in Provo.

MySpace is the new booty call . . .

I saw "He's Just Not That Into You" over the weekend and I thought it was fabulous! It was so cute and hilarious. The cast is great (except I am not a fan of Scarlett Johansson, I'm sorry but I just don't think she is that pretty)and I even loved Ben Affleck in it, who I haven't liked for a while. I really would love to see it again. Maybe I can relate to it a little too well, but I just thought it was so funny! Gennifer Goodwin was so cute and I wanted to be her BFF by the end of the movie.

Favorite quotes from the movie:

"MySpace is the new booty call."

“I had this guy leave me a voice mail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies. It’s exhausting.”

“Hey, 'let’s meet at so-and-so’s party/any bar/friend’s house' is not a date."

“Men don’t forget how much they like you. So put down the phone.”

Dear iPod,

You are currently holding 657 songs and have room to spare. I love you for this. However, I am a little baffled at the fact that when I set you to shuffle, you think there are only 25. At least that’s the way it appears because you keep shuffling through the same 25 songs. Don’t get me wrong, I like those 25 songs, but I also like the other 632. Maybe we could work something out where you shuffle through at least another 50 songs? If that’s not too much to ask . . .

Thanks!
Your owner, April
