April Festivities

The month of April has been a pretty fabulous one! My birthday was on the 3rd and it was pretty great. My friend Ashley and I went for pedicures the day before (Ashley’s birthday gift to me, which was awesome!) and we went to lunch. It was great to have some much needed Girl Time. General Conference was that weekend, so we watched a lot of that. After Kevin was done with the Priesthood session we went to The Pizza Factory for dinner. Love those breadsticks!

My actual birthday I ended up waking up fairly early and couldn’t fall back to sleep, so I decided to make my birthday dessert myself. Blueberry Supreme! It is basically cheesecake dessert with blueberry pie filling on top. Kevin woke up just as I was finishing it, and he wasn’t too happy that I had made my own dessert. I just wanted to help! I finally got to open my birthday presents in between Conference sessions. Kevin bought me an Xbox Kinect and a dancing game to go with it. We set it up right away and found that our little townhouse is a bit small to really be able to play. We still had fun though.

That night we had some fun friends over for dinner (Kevin’s homemade lasagna. My absolute favorite food in the world!) and dessert. We played Catch Phrase, boys against girls, and the girls won every time. Of course! Turned out to be a pretty perfect birthday!

The following weekend was our First Wedding Anniversary. Since we are going on a cruise in May, we tried to play it a little low-key but I couldn’t do nothing, so we did celebrate some. Our anniversary was the 10th,which fell on a Sunday, so we really celebrated on Saturday. Kevin and I bought Utah County super passes or whatever they are called, so we went to the Trafalga in Lehi in the afternoon to play mini golf and laser tag. Unfortunately, it was insanely busy and we spent about 2 hours in line to play two 15 min games. After our adventures at Trafalga we headed up to Salt Lake City and checked into the same hotel we spent our wedding night in. For dinner we went to Ruth’s Christ Steakhouse. My boss had given me a $100 gift card for there a couple months prior so we saved it to use for our anniversary. So glad we did since we still ended up paying $50. The food was incredible though. Best steak I have ever had, and incredible crème brule. Would definitely love to do it again, when we are rich.

The weather was pretty gross, so we were very grateful we didn’t have to drive all the way back down to Spanish Fork. The hotel was nice and had an indoor pool and free breakfast, so we had a pretty fantastic weekend.

It is hard to believe that I have been married to my incredible, loving, generous, selfless, patient husband for over a year now. I still get butterflies when I see him and fall in love with him more and more each day. I am incredibly blessed!

I still have two more events to write about, but I will have to write about them later. And hopefully will be able to post pictures soon.

Sprinkles

I have so much to update, but until I have the time to do so, I have to share that I finally ate at Sprinkles this weekend. I am a huge Cupcake Wars fan, and a huge cupcake fan, so I have always wanted to try one of Candace's famous cupcakes. I was visiting my sister in Arizona this weekend and managed to make it to Scottsdale yesterday to try a cupcake.

I ordered the Red Velvet and it was pretty good. I loved the frosting. Was it the best thing I ever ate? No, but it was pretty darn good.

I failed to take a picture before I devoured it, but here is one I found online.

Leo in Warrenton

When I was in middle school and probably part of high school, I was madly in love with Leonardo DiCaprio. I saw Titanic 3 times in the theater, and would have seen it more if my mom would have let me. I made up a pseudonym (Daphne Alexis) and wrote him a letter professing my love. I don't think I ever sent it, at least I hope I didn't.

Anyway, today he is in Warrenton, VA along with Clint Eastwood filming a movie at the Courthouse. I grew up in Warrenton. I'm pretty sure my 13 year-old self would be wetting herself right now. Too bad he came just a few years too late.

Birthday Week

I miss the days when I would start counting down the days till my birthday. I would always start February 12th because my brother’s birthday was February 11 and I didn’t want to distract attention from his birthday. Now I don’t get as excited to get older. I don’t feel old yet, but I am sure I will start feeling it in the next couple of years.

Yesterday I asked Kevin what he planned for my Birthday Week, and he just gave me a blank stare. “Birthday Week? I don’t do Birthday Weeks. I only do BirthDAYs.” I wasn’t expecting him to plan anything, but it was pretty funny to hear all the excuses of why he didn’t have anything planned this week. I haven’t really planned anything either, though I know I want a really good dessert ( I am giving up sweets for 2 weeks and my birthday is the end of the 2 weeks) and a pedicure.

Having your birthday during Conference weekend has it’s pluses and minuses. It is an incredible uplifting weekend, usually filled with lots of family time, but it takes up 6 hours of my Saturday, making it difficult to make fun birthday plans. My birthday is on Sunday this year, so everything fun will have to be on Saturday in between session, or watch the sessions later.

Any suggestions? I am thinking about possibly going to the Hogle Zoo or the Living Planet Aquarium?

Last Chance Workout

Pulled this DVD out and tried it again for the first time in about 8 months.

I can barely move my legs and arms today.

I'm a Cougar

One of my brother-in-laws shared this precious moment via email today:

I thought it was a bit humorous awhile ago when Jared was realizing that quite a few of his aunts were cougars (washington state and byu), given the other 'slang' meaning of cougar (and that reality TV show - The Cougar).

Jared: "Hey Dad, a lot of my aunts are cougars."
Me: "Uh, Jared, maybe you shouldn't say that to just anyone, unless they know that you're talking about where they went to college..."

Jared is 5 years old (I'm pretty sure. There are 19 nieces and nephews on that side and I get confused sometimes) and really into sports. He loves the Utah State Aggies and hates BYU. I purposely wear my BYU stuff when we visit just to get a reaction out of him. He is adorable.

UpBEET

I tried the new "berry upBEET" smoothie from Jamba Juice this morning. It has 1 full serving of veggies and 2 full servings of fruit and only 230 calories. It tasted pretty good, even after I dropped it in the parking lot and it splattered across the pavement. Needless to say, I had a rough morning.
